This week's Sweet Melissa Sundays pick, Roasted Pecan Cake with Caramel Orange Marmalade and Burnt Orange Buttercream, was chosen by Leslie of Lethally Delicious.
This would have been a delicious recipe, if it was actually finished. I had made the cake with walnuts...and not crushed because I have no food processor, so whole chopped pieces of walnuts. The cake turned out fine. Also, I had made the caramel part of the orange marmalade and and splashed some guava juice in it instead.
The frosting is where it went all wrong. Somehow nothing went right. The guava juice wasn't becoming syrupy enough. The sugar was too soft. The butter was too cold. The frosting was just a huge failure, but not only that, the whole job searching thing is hard. I've sent out about 20 resumes, and no responses at all - not even a no thank you. It's getting to me, but I'm still looking for stuff. If anyone knows of something I can in the Bay area, or in the LA area, please let me know. I think that any job right now would be appreciated.
Also during this week, I have decided that I do want to start my own business - a cupcake business. Maybe mini tarts too! Name has yet to be decided, and it'll probably be order only for now. Maybe I'll do a storefront. I'll think about it all during this month! I'll decide before everything's done.
Sorry, Leslie, they just turned out so bad that I just didnt want to photograph them. Hopefully everyone else's faired a lot better than mine!
Sorry this didn't turn out for you! Good luck with the job hunt and I hope your dream of opening a cupcake business is soon a reality!
ReplyDeleteSorry this didn't turn out!!!
ReplyDeleteGood luck with the cupcake business! What a great way to follow your dream!
Sorry the frosting didn't work out. I changed the recipe up quite a bit and made cupcakes and while they were good, probably not a repeat here.
ReplyDeleteGood luck with the job search! I know how hard it is out there - I've been looking for a while myself. I'm sure you'll find something great :)
Keep the faith. Hopefully something great will come along.
ReplyDeleteOh boo... so sorry it didn't turn out as planned. I loved the taste of the cake, but as you saw, I changed it up quite a bit! :)
ReplyDeleteIf you still have the cake, it looks like some of the other bakers have had success frosting it with a whipped cream frosting?
ReplyDeleteGood luck on the job hunt! It can be frustrating, but the right one will come along!
so frustrating! Both the frosting and job search. Thinking about opening up your own bakery, however, sounds like fun!
ReplyDeleteYou failed this week... i failed last week. It's ok.
ReplyDeleteBut good luck on your business!
I am so sorry that the frosting didn't work out for you! That's so sad. And it sounds like with your job search taking longer, you could have really used a piece of cake! Your cupcake venture sounds fun, and from what I've seen of your cupcakes, it will be a huge success. Make sure you post where you end up with it so us Bay area bloggers can pay you a visit.
ReplyDeleteThanks for baking with me this week!
Sorry this didn't turn out well for you. Normally everything else does so it should be ok. As for starting your own business - chase your dreams girl. I know you will do awesome.
ReplyDeleteSorry the cupcakes didn't work out as planned, at least you tried!
ReplyDeleteGood luck with the job search and the cupcake business - that's a great idea and definitely a fun think to keep you occupied if the job search gets you down.
