I had trouble getting the 7 Minute frosting to set, but I added a little bit of powdered sugar and it set up quite nicely. In addition, I tried to use the broiler. It scares me quite a bit. I've had a few bad experiences with them. As you can see, I didn't have any better ones this time either. I burned a couple of the cupcakes, but other than that, the rest of them were perfect!
Thank you Megan for this fun and wonderful choice!
The recipe for this month's Cupcake Club is found on pages 142 of Martha Stewart's Cupcake book or here. Thanks to Megan from My Baking Adventures for choosing this.
Okay, so a few cupcakes got burned, most survived, right? Have you seen my candied sweet potato ones??? Not pretty! I used a kitchen torch, and planned to try the broiler the next time around. Your first picture looks perfectly browned, though. Good work!! Your cupcake looks just lovely!
ReplyDeleteCUTE! I have TOTALLY set things on fire in my broiler before.. Like ACTUALLY on fire, with flames and everything, haha! Needless to say it scares me now too. :)
ReplyDeleteHow great that you have a murder mystery dinner! The cupcakes look great and I laughed at the burnt ones b/c haven't we all had mistakes like that?!
ReplyDeleteThese look awesome Nina :)
ReplyDeleteI'm terrified of the broiler, too. I've only used it maybe twice, and I stand by the oven scorching my face (and my eyelashes) the whole time because I'm so scared of burning everything and I still burn things! Your cupcakes look terrific, and if only a couple burned it's still a success, in my opinion.
ReplyDeletehey, we all need a little char in our system. ;) no, really. we do! personally, i'd rather have mine with a lemony tang instead of a burnt piece of meat! they look great!
ReplyDeleteI love burnt marshmallows, I bet they would taste great! Love that you posted them!
ReplyDeleteHi Nina!
ReplyDeleteYes the broiler can be a tricky thing. I used my mini oven's broiler, so it worked for me.
Your cuppies look super adorable!
Yay for lemon!
I have had a hundred broiler mishaps. I always seem to get distracted and then smoke alarm and burnt stuff. Your cupcakes look wonderful.
ReplyDeleteI almost caught the kitchen on fire with one of the other MSC's that required the torch!
ReplyDeleteThese look beautiful!
OMg the burnt ones look scary! But its all good... at least there were some that werent.
ReplyDeleteI'll need to try these one day. They sound awesome. Lol about the burnt ones. They're toasty!
ReplyDeleteYuuummm... Lemon cupcake! Love it!
ReplyDeleteMmmm....toasty! Your lemon curd looks really yummy.
ReplyDeleteThe unburnt cupcakes look great! I also used my broiler - but not fro very long because the lemon curd was starting to melt. Maybe I should just invest in a torch...
ReplyDeleteYour cupcakes look awesome Nina! The broiler scares me a little too, especially for things like browning frosting where I need a more delicate tough. Glad these were a hit with your friends. I loved them too!
ReplyDeleteI always liked the burnt marshmallows best so these look great to me! ;) - mary
ReplyDeletei thought these were super delish too! LOL on the brunt cupcake pics! the swirl still looks cute, even when it's burnt! =)
